Description

The Architect II is an expert in multiple highly specialized phases of applications systems analysis. Acts independently under general supervision. Monitors the evolution of multiple application and technology arenas, working with business partners as appropriate to author and publish recommendations regarding the implementation of new technology solutions.  Provides technical consulting on complex projects. Formulates and defines system scope and objectives. Often acts as business expert and assists users in defining needs. Devises or modifies procedures to solve complex problems. Prepares detailed specifications from which programs may be written. Analyzes and revises existing systems as necessary. Has full technical knowledge of all phases of applications system analysis. May have duties instructing, directing, and checking the work of others.


Essential Job Functions:

  • Work on several concurrent projects, providing expertise in application design and architecture.
  • Work closely with experts within the software development community to understand the business issues and systems, collaborate on physical application design alternatives and create development estimates for each alternative design for a given project.
  • Provide software architectural consulting expertise, direction, and assistance to Software Engineers, Business Analysts and other Systems Architects.
  • Translate Business Requirements into technical architecture, balancing the use of existing technology with the benefits associated with the use of new technology.
  • Facilitate business requirements gathering, using various techniques and crossing business unit boundaries.
  • Remain continually aware of business, technical, application and infrastructure issues and act as a consultant to aid in development of creative solutions involving complex architectures.
  • Research, document, and report on future technologies and commercial trends and how they impact the technical and business domains.
  • Effectively discuss complex technologies and architecture and interact with technical and non-technical professionals at all levels.
  • Participate in all parts of the Systems Development Lifecycle (SDLC) process.
  • Conduct periodic internal seminars for the purpose of disseminating new technology to other members of the Information Services organization.
  • Research, evaluate and recommend technical design solutions for business applications.

Education and/or Experience:

  • Position requires a BS degree in Computer Technology, Informatics, Computer Science, or Engineering or equivalent and fifteen (15) or more years of Information Technology experience.
  • Project management skills and extensive knowledge of technology systems and applications is required. Continuing education and awareness of industry trends and technology solutions for software development are required.
  • Strong leadership skills and advanced understanding of Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) are required. 

Language Skills:

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret the most complex documents and processes and translate to an understandable forum for team members.  The ability to communicate with all levels of the organization, including line individuals.  Ability to make effective presentations to key / senior management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.
