Summary
The OpenEdge Database Administrator is responsible for multiple databases in an intensive application environment, including routine administrative activities such as cloning, backup, restore and patching. The position will support multiple production Progress OpenEdge databases in a 24X7 high availability environment. The successful candidate must be self-driven and be able to independently debug complex problems.
Essential Job Functions
- Perform routine DBA activities for OpenEdge database instances.
- Build database schema, tables procedures and permissions.
- Provide technical assistance and guidance to application support staff and project teams.
- Perform database backups and recovery, Monitor database health, Troubleshoot database issues.
- Open and follow-up on Service support tickets with Progress support.
- Develop, maintain and test database back-up, disaster recovery and capacity planning strategies.
- Prepare and install new application database related software, releases and patches
- Assist users with installation of Progress clients and utilities.
- Create and maintain advanced database administration scripts.
- Respond to and resolve user issues according to defined procedures and standards.

Education and/or Experience
Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from four-year College or University; or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Requires 5 to 10 years experience in a relatively active OpenEdge database administrator role.
Language Skills
Ability to read and comprehend instructions, correspondence, memos, and workplace policies. Ability to analyze, interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, procedures and governmental regulations. Ability to write professional correspondences. Ability to write routine business reports. Ability to speak effectively with other employees and/or customers. Ability to present formal information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, students, parents and/or other employees. Ability to present information and respond to questions from groups of administrators, managers, employees, customers and/or the general public.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to carry out detailed written and/or verbal instructions. Ability to solve problems independently involving concrete variables in standardized situations. Ability to define problems, collect data, establishes facts, and draw valid conclusions.
