The Team Leader is responsible for directing the workflow for the Pre-Funding Quality Analyst(s) and PFQA Underwriters, and reporting issues to the PFQA Manager. The Team Leader must provide the highest level of customer service, and ensure all loans are reviewed to meet specified guidelines as outlined by Freedom Mortgage. He/she will act as a troubleshooter to ensure efficient operations and smooth and timely workflow, while fulfilling the role of liaison to the production staff, Underwriting Managers and Division Managers.

The Team Leader will assist the PFQA Manager in his/her responsibility in meeting division goals for turnaround times, reduction of cost per loan expenses, productivity and customer service. He/she will monitor Pre-Funding Quality Analyst’s & QA Underwriter’s pipelines to ensure complete and accurate data entry in Lakewood, while tracking timely and accurate completion of work for of all loans.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Proficient with all duties of the Pre-Funding Quality Analyst/PFQA Underwriter & PFQA Coordinator job descriptions.
  • Resolve customer related problems that have gone beyond the Pre-Funding Quality Analyst/PFQA Underwriter & PFQA Coordinator.  This is done with the input of various parties involved from the branch, and/or Senior Underwriter and PFQA Manager.
  • Must be able to learn and understand all FMC, Agency & Investor guidelines to perform their daily tasks.
  • Perform daily tasks in a timely manner while providing good customer service without compromising Quality.  
  • Daily tasks include reviewing loans with defects elevated by the PFQA Quality Analysts/PFQA Underwriters, determining if the defect is valid and either Final Approving the loan (and providing feedback to the Quality Analyst/PFQA UW) or sending the Defect out to the responsible party & Underwriting and others as instructed.   
  • Participate in the consistently held meetings with Team Leads, all Team members and one-on-one meetings to provide information, training, mentoring and feedback, as well as discuss changes in procedures, policies and guidelines to help interpret and clarify.
  • Work with the QA Manager to balance staffing levels in proportion with the workload.
  • Complete reports timely as needed or requested.
  • Perform various additional tasks as assigned.


The Team Leader will be responsible for coordination of the team’s daily duties. They will carry out any supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. The responsibilities include but are not limited to training new employees; planning, assigning, directing and completing daily workload; addressing complaints and resolving problems. Reporting feedback from Underwriting/Operations to the PFQA Manager.


To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.  The candidate must be detail oriented, skillful with thinking through a problem logically, work in front end production, have the ability to express themselves in a professional manner, mentor, comprehend and communicate at all levels.  The Candidate must be able to work with/learn the computer system.  They must be able to learn and understand all FMC, Agency & Investor guidelines to perform their daily tasks.  The requirements listed are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.


2-4 years of experience in mortgage banking experience preferably underwriting and helpful if any supervisory skills.
