Summary

The Real Estate Legal Assistant conducts legal research and provides support to the department.

 

Essential Job Functions include:

  • Understands title and legal documentation including Title reports, Intervolves Trust documents, and various conveyancing paralegal documents including deeds and leasehold documents.
  • Understands and can review Power of Attorney documents, strong preference will be given for someone with this experience.
  • Understands Consolidation, Extension and Modification documents (CEMA)  for New York loan process, strong preference will be given for someone with this experience.
  • Ability to independently review title documents and produce written legal analysis.
  • Use various programs like MS Word and Excel in preparation of correspondence and documents.

Qualifications:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Education and/or Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree or paralegal certificate from a recognized paralegal program.
  • At least 3-5 yeas years of experience in RE department of law firm, bank or other legal environment required.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Experience in residential or commercial finance, or mortgage banking experience a plus but not required.

 

Language Skills:

Ability to read and comprehend instructions, correspondence, memos, and work place policies. Ability to analyze, interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, procedures and governmental regulations. Ability to write professional correspondences. Ability to write routine business reports. Ability to speak effectively with other employees and/or customers. Ability to present formal information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers and employees. Ability to present information and respond to questions from groups of administrators, managers, employees, customers and/or the general public.

 

Mathematical Skills:

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, and percentages.

 

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to carry out detailed written and/or verbal instructions. Ability to solve problems involving concrete variables in standardized situations. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
