Under the direction of the Senior Director or a Senior Auditor, the Internal Auditor is responsible for the development and execution of internal audits, which includes the below essential job functions.


Essential Job Functions may include:


  • Develop and identify audit scope for any assigned auditable areas.
  • Review adequacy of controls and test controls for effectiveness in accordance with plan timelines.
  • Conduct special “reviews” requested from Freedom’s business leaders, as assigned.
  • Interpret and assess compliance with internal or external policies and procedures, and guidelines.
  • Perform gap analysis of controls and identify any weaknesses or areas that need improvement.
  • Assist in development of the annual audit risk assessment.
  • Work with all levels of employees, executive and senior level management during reviews.
  • Conduct management action plan validation testing.
  • Lead special projects, as needed. Summarize audit results in a clear and concise, and actionable fashion.
  • Draft internal audit reports.
  • Properly document audit workpapers.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

Education /Experience:


  • Bachelor's degree from four-year College or University;
  • Three (3) to five (5) years internal audit experience in a financial services setting (preferably mortgage banking).  Will also consider “internal audit-like” experience, including risk management, compliance, or public accounting.
  • Professional certification (CPA, CIA, or CRCM) strongly preferred.


Language Skills:

Ability to read and comprehend instructions, correspondence, memos, and workplace policies. Ability to analyze, interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, procedures and governmental regulations. Ability to write professional correspondence. Ability to write routine business reports. Ability to speak effectively with other employees and/or customers. Ability to present formal information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers and employees. Ability to present information and respond to questions from groups of administrators, managers, employees, customers and/or the general public.


Organization Skills:

  • Strong organization skills, including the ability to multi-task among multiple assignments.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision
