Position Description:

The Director, Regulatory Compliance is a member of the Compliance Self-Assessment Team within the Regulatory Compliance Department. S/he works under the direction of the Senior Director, Regulatory Compliance and senior members of the Regulatory Compliance Department. The role of the Compliance Self-Assessment Team is to ensure that Freedom’s business processes are compliant with applicable consumer protection laws and regulations and that Freedom’s compliance controls are effective. The incumbent will identify any gaps in processes and ensure corrective action is implemented. The incumbent will assist in reviewing work related to validating system changes, remediation items, periodic reviews assigned by legal, and second line testing.

Essential Job Functions include:

  • Perform regulatory compliance monitoring and testing to evaluate compliance with federal and state laws and regulations.

  • Document and report findings to management and business unit owners.

  • Evaluate trends in errors and assist business units with developing remediation action plans to modify and enhance business processes as appropriate.

  • Identification of root cause, with input from appropriate business unit personnel and other subject matter experts, as needed.  

  • Assess the effectiveness of proposed remediation action plans and those put into place by the business unit owners.

  • Consistent monitoring of business unit owners for responses on findings and remediation items, as well as documenting those activities.

  • Support management in responding to requests from auditors and examiners as needed.

  • Assist Regulatory Compliance Counsel with targeted regulatory compliance testing, research and projects as needed.


Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • 5+ years direct experience in testing to evaluate the effectiveness of controls (may include audit, compliance, consulting, or examination)
  • Proficiency in consumer protection laws and regulations governing mortgage origination and servicing
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
  • Strong analytical skills with high attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to articulate complex concepts in a clear manner
Preferred, not required:
  • Experience as a compliance audit manager, senior compliance auditor/consultant, or managing examiner
  • Certified Regulatory Compliance Manager (CRCM) designation
