Freedom Mortgage is seeking an entry level Data Engineer as we rapidly expand our data capabilities within our Marketing Analytics team to meet the data challenges of today and the future.  This role will work in Marketing to help accelerate Freedom’s current mortgage offerings and help Freedom expand into new markets.

Responsibilities (What you’ll do):

  • Work as part of a team to find trends in data and raw data more useful to Freedom
  • Develop algorithms to optimize data ingestion, manage data, analyze data and move data at scale
  • Develop dashboards, reports and other visualizations that clearly explain the business problems being addressed
  • Develop data tracking plans for new and existing processes to ensure reporting and analytics can be setup in quick and efficient manner.
  • Work across departments including IT, Marketing and Operations
  • Work independently / remotely and as part of a team as needed
  • Understand and align to an overall enterprise architecture
  • Identify ways to improve data reliability, efficiency and quality
  • Use data to discover tasks that can be automated
  • Deliver updates to stakeholders based on findings, patterns and analysis within the data
  • Use technical problem-solving skills to explore new domains and be creative when previous methods fail
  • Be a data advocate within the organization by empowering others to use data

Key Competencies:

  • Experience/Education in a data engineering, software development, data science or machine learning
  • Experience as part of technical teams and projects utilizing Agile and DevOps frameworks
  • Familiar with a modern set of data tools and programming languages
  • Experience with cloud and non-cloud databases
  • Ability to break down complex business problems and recommend practical solutions
  • Ability to extract and organize large datasets from a variety of sources using different approaches and tools
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills; proven ability to develop and initiate creative innovations and solutionsBA or BS degree with specialization in data
    • Detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills including technical writing

It would be Nice if You Had:

  • Knowledge of current big data platforms, like Cassandra, DynamoDB, Spark or NoSql data stores
  • Knowledge of with full-Stack Engineering including CI/CD practices & Dev Ops Principles
  • Experience preparing data for predictive and prescriptive modeling a plus
  • Experience writing software for a startup is a plus
  • Experience within a fully AWS environment is a plus
  • Experience with unconventional data types as well as unstructured data is a plus
  • Experience working in various agile working styles (pair programming, swarming, etc.)
  • Knowledge of 1 or all of the following: SAS, SQL, Python, BASH, Ruby, Scala, R, C#/.Net or Python, SQL Server, MySQL, MongoDB, Cassandra, SnowFlake, Hadoop or Spark
