Team Freedom Cares Employee Spotlight: Tammy Rubenstein
Team Freedom Cares is the philanthropic arm of Freedom Mortgage. Their mission is to help the Freedom family make a difference in their communities. In this week's Team Freedom Cares Employee Spotlight, we're featuring Tammy Rubenstein.
Tammy, Senior Director, Corporate Real Estate & Facilities Project Management, has been with Freedom Mortgage for over seven years. After three years working in the Call Center, she worked her way to the Corporate Real Estate and Facilities Department where she has become an integral part of the department by leading the project management discipline and project/process improvement. She is responsible for Freedom’s National Life Safety program and oversees fire evacuation plans as well as the AED/First Aid program. Tammy is currently working on standardizing our coffee, water, and vending program to generate efficiencies, cost savings, and employee satisfaction. Tammy is always willing to take on special projects, as she is involved with our return-to-office efforts during the ever-evolving pandemic.
Born and raised in New York on the Fourth of July, she has lived in the Philadelphia area for almost 30 years. Her interest in philanthropy started when she was nine years old after she received a Jerry Lewis muscular dystrophy carnival kit as a gift. Made popular in the ’60s and ’70s by Jerry Lewis telethons, carnivals were a way to raise funds and awareness for muscular dystrophy. Growing up, Tammy remembers that her mother was always involved in fundraising at their synagogue. Her mom passed the values of giving back to her children. Tammy’s most recent fundraising effort was in February of 2021 during a Freedom community service day, where Tammy hosted a virtual cookie sale and raised $660!
“I feel like I have always been driven by the prospect of saving and improving lives,” Tammy told us, “and I love Freedom’s values when it comes to supporting the communities where we live and work.”
Tammy has been working toward becoming a transplant ambassador for NJ Sharing Network, a nonprofit that helps facilitate organ donation and transplants. She was moved to join this organization after learning that her colleague and next-door neighbor, Mark, was diagnosed with a kidney disease and requires a kidney donor and transplant to save his life. Mark is a veteran who served in the Army for 10 years and has been working in Freedom’s Servicing organization since 2018. He and his wife, Hope, have been working with NJ Sharing Network to encourage others to learn the facts about the benefits of donating organs.
NJ Sharing Network has several ways to get involved. They host both advocacy and informational events that encourage sharing personal experiences in hopes of reducing the waitlist for donations; they host sporting event fundraisers, and they train and certify volunteers to educate their local communities about the misconceptions and benefits of organ donation. On September 12, the organization hosts a fundraising 5K event in New Providence, NJ, where all are welcome to participate by walking, running, or cheering. (Mark’s team is named “Freedom!”)
If you would like to get involved or learn more about kidney donations, information about NJ Sharing Network, or the 5K, please visit njsharingnetwork.org.
