Team Freedom Cares Employee Spotlight: Jeannine M.

Team Freedom Cares is the philanthropic arm of Freedom Mortgage. Their mission is to help the Freedom family make a difference in their communities. In this week's Team Freedom Cares Employee Spotlight, we're featuring Jeannine.

Celebrating her 10-year anniversary with Freedom Mortgage in September, Jeannine M. originally started as a Processor in 2012. She moved to the Accounting department in 2015 and eventually became an AP Manager, Corporate Accounts Payable. As AP Manager, she oversees the team that processes all the invoices that are paid daily to keep the company operating – from electric bills to large-scale operating expenses for processing loans.

Originally born and raised in Palmyra, NJ she married her high school sweetheart (who is now a teacher in the school district!) and moved to Riverside and had two kids, Maddie and Ben. Maddie is currently pursuing her Master’s in Special Education at Rutgers, and Ben currently attends Camden County College.

Her son, Ben, was born with a rare chromosome disorder (micro-deletion of his tenth chromosome). “We actually didn’t receive that diagnosis until he was 15!” Jeannine told us. While Ben has been through multiple surgeries and hardships over the years, he always braves the world with a smile on his face.

He was introduced to Special Olympics New Jersey (SONJ) when he was in the sixth grade where he competes to this day on their bowling league. He also joined the volleyball team for a couple of years. According to Jeannine, “Ben is able to compete in SONJ events for the duration of his life for free – and that is all in part to the fundraising and sponsorship efforts of the team at SONJ.”

In 2019, Ben told his father he wanted to give back to SONJ, so they organized a bowling tournament and a White Elephant in November. Their efforts raised over $2,000 for the SONJ athletes of Burlington County. Ben was even named the SONJ 2019 Athlete of the Year!

However, swimming was Ben’s biggest accomplishment – and the sport he is competing in at the 2022 Special Olympics USA Games. Ben will be swimming for Team NJ in Orlando, Florida from June 5th – 12th (and it will be televised on ESPN!). Jeannine says, “It has been such an incredible experience since Ben made the team. Our family and friends have always known what a great young man Ben is, and I’m glad the country is going to see it now too!”
