Cycling to Support the Fight Against Multiple Sclerosis with Paul T.
Giving back to meaningful causes and participating in philanthropic efforts is an essential part of our culture at Freedom Mortgage. This year, Freedom Mortgage teamed up for the MS150 City to Shore Bicycle Ride to help support the fight against multiple sclerosis (MS). It’s more than a ride—it’s an experience driven by passion, camaraderie, and an overall desire to make a difference. Bike MS is the largest fundraising cycling series in the world. Each year, nearly 75,000 cyclists and more than 6,000 teams ride together to change the world for people with MS.
The Bike MS City to Shore ride starts in Cherry Hill, New Jersey, and ends in Ocean City, New Jersey. It’s for all riders of different abilities. It has 25-, 45-, 75-, 100-, or 150-mile routes. The Bike MS community has raised more money than any other cycling event for any other cause. To date, Bike MS’s cyclists, volunteers, and donors have raised more than $1.4 billion.
This week, Paul T. (IT Product Director), who oversees a team that manages and develops digital experiences for FreedomMortgage.com, is giving us an inside look at why this charity is so close to his heart.
“This was my second year captaining the Freedom Mortgage team,” Paul told us. “We made a Microsoft Teams Chat group, where we would post motivational messages about training and our donation goals. Any organization that pulls our community together to help others is important. As a society, we must make every effort to eradicate diseases that take away from our quality of life.”
“The morning of the ride, I typically wake up very early to get to the start gate in time and beat the long line of vehicles dropping riders off. Typically, that’s 4:30 AM. This year’s ride was pretty chilly, and I didn’t bring layers for the ride. It’s safe to say I was very cold,” Paul said. “To combat the cold, I tried to move around and rub my arms to keep the blood flowing before the gates opened at 6 AM.”
We asked Paul to tell us about an exceptional day at Freedom Mortgage. He said:
“The Freedom MS150 team shot some promotional videos in 2021 at the 40 Lake Building. We didn’t know this was going to happen, but Stan Middleman came out to personally thank us for what we were doing. It made me feel wonderful to know that Stan takes the effort to engage with all of his employees along with the initiatives that we commit ourselves to in the community.”
As for Paul’s favorite part of working at Freedom Mortgage?
“My team,” he said. “I have an extraordinary team that puts 100 percent in effort every day and consistently looks for ways to improve our customers’ experiences when they log on to FreedomMortgage.com.”
