Cecil Abraham - Director, Learning & Organizational Development (Corporate)
“Freedom Mortgage's people-centric culture makes it feel like you're part of a family.”
Among Cecil’s day-to-day responsibilities is to regularly connect with stakeholders from across the company to better understand the development and training needs of their teams. He uses the information gathered from these meetings to design, implement, and evaluate new learning programs. His focus is often on the professional development of executives and other emerging leaders. Most recently, he’s been running a customized program to develop leaders within our Servicing department.
Cecil and his team also manage Freedom’s mentoring program, employee engagement initiatives, and soft skills development for our First Flyer program, which trains and develops recent college graduates.
“The most exciting part of my job is the endless opportunities to develop people, which allows for constant creativity in designing and implementing new learning initiatives.”
Trying to keep pace with the changing priorities of other departments while managing his own team simultaneously can be a challenge. But Cecil always finds time to make sure his staff is learning and growing, too.
“I make it a point to meet with them at least once a week to check in on how they are feeling, not just on how they are doing. The feedback I get from these meetings helps me create a work environment that empowers my employees to perform at their best.”
In his free time, Cecil is an ardent follower of cricket and snooker – two games seen mostly in Australia, England, and India that he enjoyed playing as a youngster. Despite the unusual hours that the games are broadcast on television from the U.S., he still manages to watch them all. In fact, he’s a member of several local cricket clubs as both a player and a coach. Cecil also devotes his spare time to serve as a mentor to youth from his church and local community.
