Leadership Corner: Ruchi Kapoor—SVP Growth Strategy
Over the past five years, Ruchi Kapoor has worked in several areas of the business at Freedom Mortgage including sales analytics and marketing. Before joining the mortgage industry, her career focused on financial planning and analysis as well as consulting. Ruchi graduated from Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) in Madras, India, for her undergraduate degree, then Indiana University for her master’s before obtaining her MBA from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.
“When I joined Freedom, analytics was the most natural fit. I am an analytical person. I went to where the insights were needed and assessed issues as I’m used to from my consulting days.” At the time, the Call Center department was growing, and its teams needed help with capacity modeling, process mapping, and business controls, bringing Ruchi to the role of SVP, Growth Strategy, where she is now. “I have a very strong team that has grown tremendously. It's been gratifying to see my team take on challenging projects and watching each of them grow."
In 2020, she attended an eight-week series at Temple University for Women in Leadership with two colleagues, Beth Cole, VP, Employment Law, and Julie Lee, VP, Regional Sales, Call Center. Participants were given a platform to discuss challenges and issues specific to women in the workplace and share advice on how they overcame those obstacles.
Following the Temple series, Ruchi and Beth created Ascent under the umbrella of Freedom’s Diversity, Equity & Inclusion program. Ascent is Freedom’s first employee business resource group geared toward women’s empowerment at work. It features monthly panels with guest speakers and thought leadership. Attendees are invited to ask questions in a comfortable setting and can hear candid responses and experiences from women in leadership roles across the organization.
When she isn’t at Freedom, Ruchi continues to grow her leadership skills and share her expertise by helping others. Ruchi does pro bono consulting through a company that delivers strategic guidance to nonprofits that benefit the Philadelphia community. Volunteers are assigned a project for nine months, during which Ruchi leads a team of 10 people to help create the strategy and vision for a nonprofit client. She has been able to try different leadership models and styles through her philanthropic efforts. This has also led to success and enrichment, specifically when her efforts resulted in her being named to the board of Fleisher Art Memorial, an esteemed nonprofit community art school. She is also a board member for Need in Deed, an organization focused on transforming the educational experiences of grades 3-8 public school students in Philadelphia. Freedom and Philadelphia are both lucky to have someone as passionate as Ruchi.
