Leadership Corner: Melissa D., Senior Vice President
Get to know Melissa D. and learn how she relies on collaboration and the power of persistence to get things done.
New Jersey-based Melissa D. has over 20 years of experience in the mortgage industry including default administration, operations, credit, and risk management. Since joining Freedom Mortgage in July of 2019, Melissa has worked on strategic corporate projects, mergers and acquisitions, and the company’s e-delivery initiative. Research, coordination, and execution of COVID-19-related initiatives dominated Melissa’s past few years. She is currently working on corporate policies and procedures.
Her job description and projects cover a wide swath. Perseverance and collaboration are themes that run throughout her projects.
“Collaboration is key to everything I do. It’s my job to get everyone to work together and, critically, figure out what’s missing. I work with a lot of people in different areas of the company.”
This quote from Calvin Coolidge is one of Melissa’s favorites: "Nothing in this world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent. The slogan 'Press on!' has solved and always will solve the problems of the human race."
Melissa says, “This mindset inspires so many areas of my life, from getting things done in the office for work to perseverance over the pandemic, as well as fitness and health.”
Melissa’s husband, Andy (who is also a guest columnist on our wellness page in this issue of the Eagle!), has a personal training business, and her daughter is a competitive softball player on a team that travels all around the U.S. It would be fair to say fitness and good health are important parts of their lives. As a family, they have built a stable of good health habits, largely credited to Andy, that focus on consistency.
Despite a busy work and home life, Melissa makes time to volunteer. She serves as the treasurer for the Mortgage Bankers Association of Eastern Pennsylvania and has been a member of the board for six years.
