Leadership Corner: Cindy Reyes - Manager, Compensation
Cindy Reyes has been in the mortgage industry since 2002, beginning after college when she took a position as a Loan Processor. “Starting in the processing side first gave me a ton of insight and knowledge into the innerworkings of the business,” says Cindy.
When she came to Freedom Mortgage from her previous position in a contract role supporting Human Resources, she started as a Senior Compensation Analyst and eventually was promoted to Manager. Cindy and her team develop progressive compensation strategies to attract talent, as well as support and reward current team members. “We value our employees’ accomplishments and develop programs to reward exceptional performance. By participating in annual surveys with other national mortgage companies, we are also able to market-price our roles and ensure we are remaining not only fair, but competitive.” Her team also reviews regulations to ensure the company complies with current and applicable state and federal laws governing compensation.
Cindy credits her parents as the most influential people in her life as they have always pushed her to do better.
“They taught us that hard work really does pay off in the end, and they taught us to be kind, forgiving, and accepting. I still carry these traits with me today as you never know who you may influence with your act of kindness.”
We asked Cindy: What is the “secret sauce” to managing your workload and thriving in your role?
“When I am feeling under pressure, I always think back to times when I thought an assignment or project would never be complete. Then I saw that things always get done, you just need patience and perseverance. Organization is a key factor; I always have a notebook handy and make lists of tasks I need to get done, highlighting ones that should be completed first. Lastly, I have been able to automate processes and free up time to develop even more in my career.
I am also lucky to have a great mentor in our Compensation Vice President Barbara O’Shea and to be part of such a fabulous group of Compensation experts. As a representative for HR, our internal customers – Freedom’s employees – are just as important as our external customers. It is our job to provide them with the support and tools they need to succeed.”
